The process of adding hosts to VCF inventory is known as host commissioning, below are the pre-requisites for host commissioning:
- Hosts must be installed with the correct ESXi image
- Hosts must have forward and reverse DNS records
- Storage type can’t be changed after host commissioning
- Network Pools must exists before host commissioning
- Hosts can be commissioned as one host at a time or bulk
In this blog, we’ll discuss bulk host commissioning, first I’ll create a network pool:
Since I’m commissioning 3 hosts which will use NFS storage, so I’ll create a network pool with the below
2nd step, we go to Hosts–>Commission Hosts
We’ll use bulk commissioning , so we’ll download the json template
I downloaded the JSON, and filled it in, this is the final output:
Choose import –> Browse–>upload the JSON File
Confirm Fingerprint then Validate All
Hosts are now commissioned successfully
